Cadence is a contraction timer and birth-preparation app provided by West Wall Technologies, LLC (“we”). This policy covers the iPhone app, widgets and Live Activities, the Apple Watch companion where available, cadencebirth.com, support, and beta testing. Contact us at [email protected].

Privacy at a glance

You can use Cadence without creating an account with us. Your labor records are stored on your device and, when available, synchronized through your Apple account’s private iCloud database. Cadence does not routinely upload those records to a server operated by West Wall Technologies, and we do not have a developer service for browsing your private iCloud records.

If you send us a screenshot, report, backup, or message for support or beta feedback, we can read what you send. Apple also provides beta and diagnostic information as explained below. These are separate from routine access to your labor records.

We do not sell personal information, show ads, or use your information for targeted advertising or cross-company tracking. The app contains no advertising or analytics SDKs and does not access HealthKit.

Information you enter

Cadence stores the information you choose to record:

  • Labor sessions and contractions: start and end times, optional peak and intensity, and session identifiers.
  • Notes, moods, and events such as water breaking, medications, or cervical checks.
  • Your due date, birth plan, checklists, and chosen timing rules.
  • Contacts: name, phone number, relationship label, and calling order.
  • Your birth place: name, address, optional phone number, and saved coordinates when available.
  • Preferences and technical state needed to save records, display the timer, and reconcile device actions.

The app uses this information for timing, recorded-pattern summaries, history, preparation, calling and directions, and the alerts or device displays you use. A session can preserve the due date and timing rule associated with it. Notes and preparation details may reveal reproductive health, care preferences, or information about other people. Only include what you want to keep in your records.

iCloud and device storage

Cadence uses Apple’s private CloudKit database for sessions, contractions, events, birth-plan items, contacts, and checklists. Synchronization depends on your Apple account, settings, connectivity, and service availability. Apple operates this service.

Current due-date and birth-place settings and other preferences are stored separately on your phone; not every setting is synchronized by the labor database. A due date or rule recorded with a session can synchronize with that session. Selected preferences are also included in JSON backups.

Deleting a session does not turn off synchronization. Disabling iCloud synchronization does not itself erase records already stored elsewhere. Apple device backups are separate from live synchronization and may contain Cadence data depending on your backup settings. Manage Apple services through your device and Apple account settings. See Apple’s privacy policy.

Backups, export, and deletion

Cadence writes automatic JSON snapshots in its Documents/Backups folder, accessible through Files. After a successful snapshot, it attempts to keep the newest ten. This is a file-count limit, not a fixed expiry period; failures can leave older files in place. If a database cannot be opened, Cadence may keep a recovery copy without a fixed expiry and restore a recent automatic snapshot.

A JSON backup can contain your sessions, notes and events, birth plan, contacts, checklists, due date, birth place, and selected settings. A session PDF contains that session’s recorded details. Restoring a backup merges records into the app; it does not replace all existing information and can bring previously removed records back.

“Delete all sessions” removes sessions from the active database, including the session in progress, and removes Cadence’s local automatic backups, database recovery copies, and temporary exports on this phone. This action keeps your birth plan, contacts, checklists, and preferences. Deleting one session from history also removes these historical local copies, which may contain that session, while keeping other app records. New automatic snapshots can contain the records you keep.

“Reset all Cadence data” also removes your birth plan, contacts, checklists, due date, birth place, and app settings, stops the timer, and returns to setup. Both actions ask the system to clear local notifications and refresh widgets. The paired Watch receives fresh state when connected; an offline Watch may continue displaying its previous state until it reconnects.

Cadence removes historical local files before committing the database deletion. If that cleanup fails, the app reports that records have not been deleted. If the database save then fails, records are kept, but some old local backup copies may already have been removed. You can retry the action. This is logical deletion through the app’s storage and operating-system controls, not a guarantee of forensic erasure from physical storage.

Database deletions can synchronize when iCloud sync is available. Other devices’ local backups, Apple device backups, and copies you saved or shared elsewhere are separate and must be managed there. You can remove automatic backup files through Files. We cannot remotely erase your private device or iCloud records through support. Deleting the app should not be treated as erasing every cloud, backup, or recipient copy.

New files prepared for sharing use temporary export folders. Cadence attempts to remove them when sharing finishes or is cancelled and clears abandoned export folders on a later launch. These local files are also included in the deletion actions above. Cadence does not add a separate password or encryption layer to JSON or PDF exports. Device protection and the destination you select affect their security. Anyone you give a readable copy to can access it, and deleting information in Cadence does not remove their copy. Review what you are sharing before choosing a recipient or storage service.

Location, Maps, contacts, and sharing

Location is optional. When permitted, Cadence uses a foreground location fix to show nearby places or a route to your birth place. It does not keep a history of your current location or use background location tracking. A birth-place coordinate you save remains part of that saved place.

Search and routing use Apple Maps. Requests can include the place or address you search for, a destination, and your location when used for directions. These requests go to Apple separately from your private labor database.

You can enter contacts yourself or choose a person and number using the system contact picker. Cadence stores the selected name and phone number and the relationship/order you set. It does not copy your entire address book or require blanket address-book access.

Calling, opening Maps, sharing directions, or exporting a file passes the necessary information to the system app, service, or recipient you choose. Their handling of the information is governed by their own practices.

Notifications and visible device information

With permission, Cadence schedules local contraction-pattern alerts and optional upcoming-contraction nudges. Delivery and sound depend on your notification and Focus settings. Contraction alerts are not sent from a West Wall Technologies push server. Apple’s synchronization infrastructure is separate from these local alerts.

Notification actions can contain a phone number or directions URL and display a contact or place label. Widgets read a small snapshot on the device that can include due date, timing, and pattern information. Live Activities display timing and status on the Lock Screen and Dynamic Island. Someone who can see these surfaces may learn that you are pregnant or in labor. Use your device’s notification, widget, and Live Activity settings to manage visibility, and clear delivered notifications when needed.

Siri, Shortcuts, and system controls can invoke timer actions. Apple’s handling of Siri and other system services is governed by its own privacy notices; Cadence does not send your voice requests to us.

Apple Watch

Where the companion is available and installed, Cadence exchanges timer state and Start/Stop commands with the paired Watch using Apple’s WatchConnectivity. This includes timing, recent duration/interval, pattern status, timestamps, and identifiers used to reconcile delayed actions. The Watch stores pending commands and its latest confirmed state. This timer connection does not transfer your birth plan, contacts, or notes to the Watch.

Support and beta testing

When you contact support, we receive your sender details, correspondence, and any attachments. We use Agentic Inbox running on Cloudflare infrastructure to receive, store, manage, and send support correspondence, including attachments you choose to provide. AI features are disabled for our support inbox; we do not use AI agents, automatic AI drafts, or connected AI tools to process your support emails or attachments. Messages or attachments can include health information if you provide it. Send only what is needed to explain the issue; a full labor-history backup is usually unnecessary.

Support information is used to respond to requests, investigate issues, and maintain the reliability and security of Cadence. Retention depends on the time needed to resolve and follow up on the request, the sensitivity of the information, and any applicable legal obligations. Contact us to request deletion of correspondence or attachments we hold. Such a request is separate from deleting records within the app.

When you use TestFlight, Apple automatically shares crash and usage information with us. Feedback can include screenshots and other details you submit, and may be associated with your name or email address depending on how you joined. This automatic beta-data sharing cannot be switched off while using TestFlight. See TestFlight and privacy.

Apple may also make app diagnostics available under the applicable service and sharing settings. We use diagnostic and beta information to investigate problems and improve Cadence, subject to Apple’s restrictions. Diagnostic information and any copies we keep are retained according to the issue being investigated, follow-up needs, and applicable obligations. This does not give us general access to your labor database.

For App Store releases, our routine reporting uses Apple's aggregate crash reports and anonymized performance and usage metrics. We use these reports only to fix crashes and improve features. We do not use them for advertising, attempt to identify users from them, or link usage metrics to support emails. This reporting scope is separate from TestFlight feedback and information you choose to send to support.

This website

The website’s demonstration timer runs in browser memory. Its timing interactions are not saved or uploaded by the demonstration code. The public pages do not include advertising trackers or marketing cookies.

Our hosting and delivery services process technical information needed to serve and secure the site, such as IP address, requested URL, browser information, and request time. Cloudflare provides delivery and security services and enables network-error reporting for supporting browsers to diagnose connection failures. This operational processing is separate from advertising tracking. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy and network-error reporting information.

Infrastructure logs and diagnostic reports are subject to the relevant service’s retention and security settings. Following an external link or sending email uses the destination service’s practices.

Your choices and privacy requests

  • Use the timer without optional location access, imported contacts, or notifications. Manage permissions in device settings.
  • Review, edit, export, or delete records using the app’s available controls, with the backup and deletion limits described above.
  • Manage iCloud and device-backup copies through Apple’s settings, and separately manage files or messages you have shared.
  • Email [email protected] about information we hold or for help with privacy controls.

Depending on applicable law, you may have rights to access, obtain a copy of, correct, or delete personal information; withdraw consent; or restrict or object to certain processing. To exercise applicable rights, describe your request and the information involved. We may need proportionate information to verify that the request concerns you. Do not send your entire labor history as proof of identity.

We will handle requests as required by applicable law, including applicable response periods and explanations of limitations or denials. You can ask us to reconsider a response by replying to it, and may have a right to complain to the relevant privacy regulator. We do not penalize you for exercising applicable privacy rights. We cannot retrieve or delete your private local or iCloud records through a support account; information you separately sent to us is different.

Security and legal requests

Cadence relies on Apple’s device protections and services for local storage and synchronization. Exported copies and support messages have different protections from your private app database. No storage or transmission method is guaranteed secure, and we do not claim that every copy is end-to-end encrypted.

We may disclose information we possess when required by applicable law or a valid legal process. This does not give us access to private records we do not hold. Your user-directed sharing and the service processing described in this policy are separate from such disclosures.

Children and policy changes

Cadence is intended for people preparing for or experiencing labor and their support people. It is not directed at children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us so we can address it under applicable requirements.

When our practices change, we will update this policy and its date. Where required, we will provide additional notice or obtain consent before new processing. The current policy is available at cadencebirth.com/privacy/. The copy included in an installed app identifies the policy version shipped with that release.

Cadence describes recorded timing and is not medical advice, diagnosis, or a substitute for care. This does not limit applicable privacy rights. For urgent concerns or decisions about care, contact your provider.
